Terms of service

Plain language, because an agreement you cannot read is not much of an agreement. Using this site means accepting these terms.

What this is

ECCN.DEV publishes reference material about United States export controls and customs, built from official sources with the version and retrieval date shown, and provides tools for keeping your own compliance records: determinations, evidence, screenings, and the history behind them.

What this is not

Not legal advice. Not a classification determination. Not an export authorization. Not a substitute for counsel. Every determination recorded here is made and released by named people at your company, and the site never decides anything for you. The full limits are part of these terms.

Your records are yours

Everything you put in your registers belongs to you. You can export a complete copy at any time, including every state change and the evidence behind it, and cancelling does not hold your records hostage. We claim no rights over your data beyond what is needed to store and serve it back to you.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you record, for the lawfulness of your own exports and imports, and for who you grant access to your account. Do not put classified information on this site. Do not use the site to plan or conceal a violation of law. Access granted to an email address on your people list is access you granted.

Accuracy, and what happens when we are wrong

We work hard at accuracy: citations must resolve against the current regulations for the site to build, every citation links to its source, and a standing review looks for errors continuously. We still make mistakes. When we find published guidance to be wrong, we withdraw or correct it and say so on the affected page rather than editing silently. The service is provided as is, without warranty, and our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Payment

Paid plans are not yet open. When they open, these terms will state the billing and refund rules before anybody is charged, and price changes will never apply retroactively.

Termination

You can leave at any time by exporting your data and asking us to delete your account. We can suspend an account used to break these terms or the law, and will say why. On deletion, live data is removed immediately and dated backups age out within ninety days.

Changes and governing law

If these terms change, the change is announced on this page with the date, and continued use after that is acceptance. This agreement is governed by the law of the United States and of the operator's home state; the state will be named here before the first paid subscription is taken, and that naming will be announced as a change.
